Give yourself credit for the knowledge that you possess when trying something new or again after a long break.

When putting together this site, I chose to start with Hugo. It has been several years since I have put together a site from scratch, and after managing software packages, figuring out (with help) how to install “the extended version” of Hugo via the asdf package manager, I was able to build a template site locally. “Success!”

The Hugo theme Hinode is fantastic, but not a starting point for me on day one of building a new site. That said, I am heavily considering returning to this theme because it is so good and well maintained.

What knowledge did I use to get here?

For general context, I use technology because I want to get things done that are important to me, rather than using technology for its own sake.

To get this site up and running on day one, I leaned on these skills and more:

• Linux command line
• Visual Studio Code
• Package manager asdf
• Hugo and its extended version, and Hugo themes
• Gimp and Inkscape
• Technical writing and information architecture
• Netlify and a starter theme
• DNS records and propogation
• Git, GitHub, and GitHub projects
• Markdown and meta data

There are likely other skills that I used:

• Patience
• Persistance
• Focus

It is no wonder that things take time, and without some of these skills, accomplishing an alpha site launch might not have been possible.

I think I can give myself a bit of credit, and a break to make myself a tea.
